จ้องอ่านผ่านวูบเธอเหลียวหลัง Stare, read, rush past, look back
แล้วบอกเสียงดังว่าพ่อจ๋า In loud voice she cries, father dear,
อีกสิบกว่ากิโลเมตรก็เข้าเมือง It’s only ten kilometers to the city
ทิวเขาที่เห็นแต่ไกล The distant mountain range
ยิ่งใกล้ก็ยิ่งยิ่งใหญ่ Grows big, big looming near
เธอเอานิ้วบังไว้จนแนบตา She hides it fingers pressed to eyes
ยิ่งใหญ่นักหนาแต่นิ้วบัง So great yet hidden by the fingers
เมื่อเห็นทิวเขาแต่ไรไร When the mountains come in sight
ก็เห็นองค์พระได้แต่เมื่อนั้น The Buddha image is then seen
ยิ่งใกล้เมืองก็ยิ่งยิ่งใหญ่ The closer to one city the bigger he becomes องค์ท่านบังภูเขาไว้อยู่เบื้องหลัง Until the mountain is hidden behind
ท่านนั่งหันหน้ามายังเมือง He sits facing the city
ค่ำแล้วเรืองเรืองอยู่เบื้องล่าง That glimmers below as evening falls
ข้ามสะพานผ่านเข้าใจเมือง Over the bridge into the city’s heart
ตึกรามเขื่องค้ำง้ำเงื้อม Great blocks of building tower high
รถราหลายหน้าแตกต่าง Many cars with so many different faces
หลายรูปหลายร่างหลายรุ่น Different models, different shapes
ดั่งมดน้อยวิ่งวุ่นระหว่างตึก Run like busy ants between buildings
… พ่อหยุดรถกึกกระทันหัน … All of a sudden Father slams the brakes รถข้างหน้าชนกันกระชั้นชิด Car in front has crashed into another
ทุ่มเถียงกูถูกมึงผิด Squabbling—you’re wrong I’m right
กระทบกระทั่งมิยั้งคิดเคียดแค้นเคือง Angering, fighting, not stopping to think ละเมิดกฎ เขียว แดง เหลือง Ignoring rules of green yellow red
รถราวุ่นไปทั้งเมือง คุณพระช่วย Car-chaos in a city crazied, Buddha help!
ลูกพึมพำ จริงด้วยพระอยู่ไหน The child murmurs, yes,
Where’s the Buddha so majestic and great
ที่เห็นสง่าแต่ไกลไกลก่อนเข้าเมือง That we saw in the distance
Before entering the metropolis
ตึกรามค้ำเขื่อง Here in the heart of the city
These great big buildings บังตาคนกลางเมืองมิอาจเห็น Must have hidden him
From the city people’s eyes
